Dentil Pattern
It is a pattern of consecutive cube shapes on the cornice. It is named “dentil” because it resembles the arrangement of teeth in the mouth.
Greek Key Pattern
This pattern is also called the “meander” or “spiral.” As its name suggests, it originated in Ancient Greece.
Guilloche
It is a motif where the curves form a sequence of circles. Although the term emerged in the 18th century, the motif’s origins date back to the Assyrians.
Vitruvian Spiral (Wave Pattern)
The motif dates back to Ancient Greece and is named after the Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius Pollio.
Leaf Patterns
Leaf patterns such as acanthus and laurel are frequently used in cornice designs.
Festoon Motif
Ribboned floral wreath design. A flower motif hanging from ribbons on both sides.
Arabesque Motif
Ivy-shaped flower leaf pattern.
Egg and Dart / Egg and Leaf Motif
The egg and dart pattern is said to have symbolized life and death in ancient times.
